May 31 “God Wants Christians to Draw Attention to Christ” Exodus 3:1-5
Good morning from Pastor Glen Brock, Baptist Tabernacle Church, Wendell, North Carolina… “Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.” (Exodus 3:1-5)
2020 is an election year and you can see folks moving around with signs and caps and banners and yard signs and every one of those items are designed to direct you to their candidate. Now, there are many that get the signs and shirts and badges and they are doing it because everyone else is doing it. They are not really concerned enough to even go to the polls and vote. Why am I saying this? Because I want to bring out the fact that people say a lot of things with their mouths that they don’t mean in their hearts. A prime example; you can find a lot of people that say that they are Christians. That is, they are saying, “I believe in the teachings of Christ,” or “I support the teachings of Christ,” or “I dedicate my life to the spreading of the Gospel.” This is great to say all this, but when it comes down to it, if they didn’t say that they were Christians, you would never know it by the way they live their lives. Their lives are not drawing attention to Christ as they should. Just as the “Burning Bush” caught Moses’ attention for God, so should our lives be a “Burning Bush” for Christ! It is the difference in a lady saying that she is a “Little Bit Pregnant.” That is impossible---she is either pregnant or she is not. A person is either serving Christ or not, no matter what he calls himself! The world expects the unbeliever to live in sin, but shame on us when we say that we are a Christian and go into the world and no one can tell the difference! In our scripture, we see Moses as he kept the flocks of his father-in-law. One day as he was leading his flock to the backside of the desert, he passed a bush that he had probably passed many times before, but this time the bush caught his attention because it was on fire. Then Moses noticed that it was not being consumed. The Bible records, in verse four, “And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, ‘Moses, Moses, And he said, here am I.’” God spoke to Moses through a burning bush. God can only speak to us when our hearts burn for the Lord. You can build a fire on one side of the road and lay a large bag of ice on the other side and 90% of those passing by will look at the fire and get excited, but hardly anyone will pay attention to the ice except to note that it’s unusual to see a piece of ice there. A fire truck can come down the road and people will come out of their houses to see it. Many will even go so far as to follow the truck, but no one gets excited about following an ice truck. If you want to do something for God, you must get on fire! You have got to realize what you are saying when you say, “I am a Christian.” You have to realize that unbelievers do not separate themselves from the world, but we must, as Christians, live and talk as Christ did, and as He told us to do, in His word. And I love this part…We have got to “Cause Heads to Turn,” for Christ! Moses ignored the bush until it became a blazing fire and then he took notice and God spoke to him through it. Let us pray that God will use us to be able to speak to the world for Christ and make us a “Burning Bush” for Him!! Stay Strong, Stay Focused… Remember, THE BEST IS YET TO BE!
