May 08, 2020 “What if God Took a Vacation!” Psalm 121:3-4
Good morning from Pastor Glen Brock, Baptist Tabernacle Church, Wendell, North Carolina…“He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” Psalm 121:3-4(NIV)
This past Friday, I was in the Walgreens in Zebulon, and overheard a conversation about going on vacation, and that started me thinking about, what if God took a vacation and He left us on our on for a week. Oh my, what a mess we would be in! Uncertainty remains in all of our conversations about vacations, for this summer 2020. This COVID19 pandemic and the effects are overshadowing all of our plans. Do you know that if God decided to take a vacation, that all of creation would fall apart. If God were to take a vacation, no prayers could be answered until He returned. I am excited that He promised that He would not take a vacation from us….”I will never leave you, nor forsake you!” Praise God, He does not “slumber nor sleep,” and He will be 24/7/365, present for us. Can you imagine, getting some bad news in the wee hours of the night and God doesn’t open for calls and prayers until 9:00 am. Thank God that He doesn’t sleep and is always available to comfort and console us, regardless of the time that we pray. I love the story that Daddy used to tell, of a little girl that was on a train ride for the first time. The train trip was an overnight trip, so they reserved sleeper bunks for the family. These beds were bunk style beds with curtains for privacy. So, Mama, Daddy and the little girl settled into the bunk and the mother tucked the little girl in and assured her that all is fine. But, this little girl was not so sure. She said, “Mommy, I am scared!” Her mother answered, “Don’t worry Honey, everything is all right, we are here and God is with you!” After a few minutes, again the little voice said, “I am scared,” and again the mother assured her that all was fine and that God was watching over her. After, several more exchanges; each getting louder, a tired and grouchy gentleman, who had endured this as long as he could, spoke out loudly, “SHUT UP AND GO TO SLEEP!” After a short stillness, the little voice spoke again and said, “God, is that you?” Well, God does not always speak that way; however, He is always ready to hear us and protect us and to respond to us, regardless of the hour! I am excited to know that He is not on vacation and that He has this present situation in hand, and He will see us through! TO GOD BE THE GLORY!! Stay Strong, Stay Focused… Remember, THE BEST IS YET TO BE!
