August 5, 2020 “In Times Like These” Job 14:1
Good morning from Pastor Glen Brock, Baptist Tabernacle Church, Wendell, North Carolina… “Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble.” (Job 14:1) Do you believe that this world is replete with troubles and trials and hard times? Have you ever had a full day without any challenges or trials or struggles? Can you believe that there are cities, towns and municipalities that are actually and seriously making plans to do away with the Police and replace them with “Citizen’s Response Groups and Social Workers?” Is it possible, the this country that people have lost their minds and are supporting, actively, the systematic destruction of standards of moral behavior and replace them with “Emotion Driven, Anti-Christian, Anti-God, If It Feels Good Do It Mentality?” Can it be that, seemingly educated people; are so ignorant of the history of the past; that they will “sign on” to repeat the same idiotic mistakes of the past? The answer to all of these questions is a resounding, “YES!” The scripture tells us that our “few” days will be filled with “Trouble,” so what do we do? We are to do exactly what Jesus planned for us to do! We are to claim His power to overcome the EVIL and we are to walk in His obedience and we are to continue to trust in His promises and His provisions and, as my Daddy used to tell me, “You Have To “Anchor Deep” to ride out the “Storms of Life!” So, my advice, my admonition to all is to “Anchor Deep,” because the Storms are here and there are more to come! Growing up, I became familiar with one of Daddy’s favorite songs and, from time to time, when Storms are crashing against my life, I recall the lyrics of this beautiful instructional song: “IN TIMES LIKE THESE…”: In times like these you need a Savior, In times like these you need an anchor. Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock! This Rock is Jesus, Yes He's the One. This Rock is Jesus, the only One. Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock! In times like these you need the Bible. In times like these, O be not idle. Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock! This Rock is Jesus, Yes He's the One. This Rock is Jesus, the only One. Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock! In times like these I have a Savior. In times like these I have an anchor. I'm very sure, I'm very sure; My anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock! This Rock is Jesus, Yes He's the One. This Rock is Jesus, the only One. Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock! The clear and undeniable message for today is, Trouble is here and Trouble will come and Sin is everywhere and EVIL exists, however, through Jesus, our ROCK, we can, not only survive, we can Thrive when we are securely and continually “ANCHORED DEEP IN THE ROCK-JESUS CHRIST!” I do not know what calamities and troubles and depravities are to come, yet, I am assured that, as a True Believer, I am an “OVERCOMER,” because HE PROMISED, and I BELIEVE, and I CLAIM IT! How about you? Stay Strong, Stay Focused… Remember, THE BEST IS YET TO BE!!
