June 14 Our Words and Our Thoughts Psalm 19:14
Good morning from Pastor Glen Brock, Baptist Tabernacle Church, Wendell, North Carolina… “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart; be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14)
Circumstances and challenges, often affect our words and our thoughts. Speaking the “Truth” is not easy! When I am tired, from an energy sapping day, I tend to say less and listen more. Why? The fact is that, when I am fully exhausted, I have difficulty is speaking the truth without some “human” influence. The Psalmists was conveying the need to have our thought life in line with our words. In Ephesians 4:15, the author instructs us to speak “the Truth is Love!” The plain fact is, that when we are weary or distracted and our attitude is a bit “south,” we are more likely to say something, although true, that said from our “human” thoughts, as opposed to our “spiritually guided” response. The reality is that the “Truth,” even the “Truth” from God’s Word, can hurt. Folks, we need to be people that speak from a heart of love and the witness of Jesus Christ! Our words can be sharper than a two edged sword and we MUST be ready and willing to speak less, listen more and continue to grow in our relationship with Christ. Our heart, our meditations, our very lives will dictate our speech. In Matthew 12:34, Jesus said, “Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks!” Colossians 4:6 tells us to “Let your conversation be always full of Grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” The Bottom Line on today’s devotion comes from the words of my dear mother…”WATCH YOUR MOUTH!!” You are representatives of Almighty God and we need to act and speak like it. James 1:19 instructs us to…“So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;” Christians, think about what and how you will speak. Think about how it will be perceived by the hearer. Think before you speak!!!!! Follow the guidance of this amazing passage of instructional scripture: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart; be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” Stay Strong, Stay Focused…THE BEST IS YET TO BE!
