Good morning from Pastor Glen Brock, Baptist Tabernacle Church, Wendell, North Carolina… “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity (Love), I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.” (1 Corinthians 13:1)
Recently, I counseled with a young man that was going through a difficult break-up and his heart was aching. He poured out his hurt and his unhappiness and he wept profusely. When he cried out, and the time was right, I offered, what I thought was wise and sound counsel, and I hugged him tight and told him that Jesus loves him and so do I! He seemed to be comforted by our encounter and I felt really pleased about being able to comfort and to offer “sound” advice. A few days later, I saw his brother and I asked how he was doing. His brother said that he was feeling much better. His brother told me that he appreciated the opportunity for his brother to talk with me. I asked, “Did he take my advice?” The brother’s response was not what I was expecting. “No, he didn’t!” “But you loved him enough to listen when he was so down. I think that is what helped the most!” For just a moment, I was almost offended, then I thought about my mother, and the way that she would open her arms and hug and comfort me and my friends, then I realized that it was her hugs and her willingness to listen, that was the expression of God’s Love. I told the brother, “I believe that you are right!” Believers, please be open to listen and prepared to embrace your brothers and sisters, and to make a difference in their lives. Speaking wise counsel and sharing directions are great things, yet the simple fact of caring and loving one another, is the most powerful and moving thing that we can do for each other! Stay Strong, Stay Focused…THE BEST IS YET TO BE!
