May 12 Mother’s Day 2024 Proverbs 31:25-28
Good morning from Pastor Glen Brock, Baptist Tabernacle Church, Wendell, North Carolina… “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:” (Proverbs 31:25-28)
In Proverbs 31, King Lemuel spoke of his mother and today, I would like to do the same. The first recollection of Jesus came from my mother. We have a ritual, each day, that has continued to this day! We began each new day with prayer, and we ended each day with prayer! It was required that I read one chapter of the Bible, each day! As I grew, I was a bit resistant to this regiment, however, in her loving and gentle way, my dear mother explained that it WAS NOT AN OPTION! By words and actions, my mother taught me the need to be kind to my neighbors and that I should render assistance when the need arose! She was constantly feeding a sick neighbor and their family, and she was the first one to respond when a need arose in our community! There were certain behaviors that were expected and there were certain habits that were to be cultivated, and they were non-negotiable! When I look back on the wisdom and the love that my mother displayed and lived before me, I am so grateful for every lesson, every corrective action, every “switching,” every stern “look,” and every hug, kind word and obvious love that this amazing woman shared with me! There is absolutely NO DOUBT that I am the man that I am today, because of this woman that I had the privilege to call “Mama!” Proverbs 22:6 instructs that we are to “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Guess What? I was taught that God loves me, and I still believe it! I was instructed to pray for everything, and I still do! I was encouraged to help my neighbor, and I still do! I was taught to share the Love of God with anyone that I had the chance to share, and I still do! I was taught that I was to begin each day with prayer, and I still do! I was instructed to end each day with gratitude and prayer, and I still do! When it is all said and done, and when I reflect on my life, my dear mother still lives on, in my every thought, action, prayer and praise! I am so very grateful to have had a mother that took her job so seriously! Praise God, he gave me a wife that IS a GREAT MAMA, and we have raised a girl that IS a GREAT MAMA! Mama, Annette, Kayla, and every beautiful lady, whether you gave birth to the little one, or you were blessed to be a “Mom” to a special child in need of mothering, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! We are so grateful for you, your life, your witness, and your unconditional LOVE! Stay Strong, Stay Focused … THE BEST IS YET TO BE!
