Good morning from Vice Chairman of Deacons, Baptist Tabernacle Church, Wendell, NC
Thank you, Pastor Glen, for trusting us deacons to fill in with devotions this week while you are away.
Ephesians 4:22-24: You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Does legalism keep people out of church and/or out of Heaven?
This topic may not affect many of our regular readers and the ones who could benefit from it probably won't read it, so if you know someone who could benefit, please pass it along.
I have 2 points and an invitation:
POINT 1: Whatever the reason if you haven't trusted Jesus Christ as your savior, please give Him a chance. In your mind you may think, "When I die, I want to go to Heaven, but I need to clean my life up before coming to church or coming to Jesus", or "I need to stop this bad habit", or "I need to end this relationship". PLEASE DON'T BELIEVE THAT LIE! No person has the power to clean their life up enough to enter Heaven.
POINT 2: If you have given your life to Jesus Christ, but are having a difficult time with lingering addictions, or bad habits, you can ask Jesus, who is all powerful, to help you control your desires. Then renew your mind in His Holy Word as we are instructed to do in Ephesians 4:22-24 and Romans 12:2
INVITATION: Join us tonight at 6:30, as I attempt to address these questions and more:
* Can a Christian play the lottery or gamble?
* Can a Christian go to an "R" rated movie?
* Can a Christian enjoy a glass of wine or a beer?
* Can a Christian plow his tobacco crop on Sunday?
