May 1, 2020 “I AM
A DEBTOR” Romans 1:14-15
Good morning from Pastor Glen Brock, Baptist Tabernacle Church, Wendell, North Carolina… “I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.” (Romans 1:14-15)
Paul spoke these words that we all can say “amen” to – “I am a debtor.” We all seem to have this in common—DEBT! There was a story told of a man who felt like he had so many debts that he took some drastic measures. His wife was one who did not know when to stop buying. He finally went to the local paper and placed this ad: “__________ will no longer be responsible for my wife’s debts.” The next day, she went down to the paper and placed an ad that read like this: “Dear Husband of mine, have no sorrow, with your name there’s nothing one can borrow!” There are many people today; that have their named signed into almost every department store, Credit Card Company, and bank, in town. Yes, we can say, with Paul, “We Are Debtors.” We have a tremendous financial obligation to Man, and if we are Christians, we should make every effort to pay our bills. You and I know that Paul is not talking about a debt to Visa or Belk’s. He is talking about another debt that we owe Mankind; that is a Spiritual debt, and if we are the Christians that we say we are, we should pay this debt also, consistently and on time, as it comes due. How can we pay this debt? Well, we owe every Man, Woman, Boy and Girl, the truth about Hell. We need to express just how terrible eternity in Hell would be and offer the alternative; Heaven! We also owe the World the Truth about Satan. He is the great deceiver and he would like nothing more than to share Hell with you for eternity. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” Now, that is the truth that needs to be told! So, We owe the World the Truth about Heaven and how to get there! The truth is that if you do not come to Jesus, by faith, confessing your sins and asking Him to forgive you and to save you, you WILL NOT see Heaven! Jesus did go to Calvary and He did hang on the Cross and He did suffer and bleed and He did die for our sins. Praise God, He did not stay dead! He arose and because of this fact, we have the opportunity to live forever with God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit! That is the Truth that we owe to this world and that is the Truth that Satan does not want you to share, so, as for me, I am and I intend to keep “paying my debt!” I am going to continue to share Jesus and His saving grace and I intend to proclaim His glory to this dark and dying world as long as He allows me to live! The song, “When We See Christ” says in the chorus, “Life’s trials will seem so small, when we see Christ.” Cheer up my fellow saints of God! We are one day closer, today, than we were yesterday, to our eternal home! As we smile and as we rejoice, let us not forget our “SPIRITUAL DEBT!” So, if you have not come to Jesus for Salvation, now is the time! How do I come to Jesus and be saved? The answer is simple. ADMIT YOU ARE A SINNER ("All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23): BELIEVE THAT JESUS DIED FOR YOUR SINS, ROSE FROM THE DEAD AND THAT YOU TRUST IN HIM ALONE FOR YOUR SALVATION. ("Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved." Acts 16:31): CONFESS YOUR SINS ("If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins." 1 John 1:9)…If you would like to invite Jesus into your life, pray this prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I understand that I am a sinner and I ask You for forgiveness. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins so that I could receive Your forgiveness and have eternal life. I ask You to come into my life right now and become my personal Savior. From this day forward, Lord, I give you control of my life. Make me a new person and help me to live for You. Amen… If you prayed to receive Jesus, I would like to know about it.
