March 22 Am I Good Enough? Galatians 6:4-5
Good morning from Pastor Glen Brock, Baptist Tabernacle Church, Wendell, North Carolina… “But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For every man shall bear his own burden.” (Galatians 6:4-5)
Amazingly, many of us still have the idea that we must be “Good” enough to be a Christian, and when we fail or make mistakes or don’t live up to our concept of “Being Good,” we question our salvation. Recently, I was talking with a really “Good” man and he is laboring under the impression that he has to be “Good” enough to be a Christian and he is struggling with the idea that he is not Good Enough! Well, guess what? He is absolutely correct! He IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! HE WILL NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH! That very fact; is the reason that God, in His Love for Humanity, send Jesus to take our sins upon himself, and be the one, true and last blood sacrifice for the remission of sin, for all of Humanity! Jesus gave His life for us! If we were “Good” enough or if we could “Save” ourselves, He didn’t have to come! We CAN’T, so He Came!! We have a tendency to compare ourselves with others, that we believe are “True” Christians and we act as if we are failing or not “Being Good Enough!” Well, I am here to tell you that your Salvation has nothing to do with being Good Enough! Praise God for His Love for us and His Gift of Eternal Life, through Jesus Christ! Folks, Christianity is not about a set of rules to follow or a manmade standard for us to follow! There are approximately 166 rules, in the Jewish law, and absolutely nobody can even keep the Top 10! God, in His Love and Wisdom, knew that we would never be “Good Enough,” so Jesus came to provide His Grace and Mercy! Christianity is about “RELATIONSHIP,” not “BEING GOOD ENOUGH!” Under the saving Blood of Jesus, and with a growing relationship with Him, we will want to follow His will and walk in His Holiness! Guess what? That’s correct…We will make mistakes and we will stumble and fall and we will continue to struggle, as long as we are in this imperfect mortal body! I told the young man, that was questioning his “Goodness,” lighten up on yourself and concentrate on following Christ and knowing what He requires of you! Micah 6:8 tells us, clearly, how we are to live… Micah 6:8: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Notice that there is nothing said about you being “Good” enough! What you have done and what you will do, is under the Blood of Jesus and He has you, securely, in His Nail Scarred Hands! Stay Strong, Stay Focused…THE BEST IS YET TO BE!
